Each month we will ask a member of Tredegar Arms AFC to name their All-Time favourite XI. They can chose any player they have either played with or watched since the TA was founded in 1992.
|
| Name: |
Kevin Bennett |
| Position: |
Goalkeeper |
| Reason: |
Although not very big, Kevin was a giant in the goal area, good handling skills and a great shot stopper, also a great character to have in the dressing room. |
|
| Name: |
Gareth Davies |
| Position: |
Left Back |
| Reason: |
Gareth was a very versatile player who could play anywhere along the left side, fantastic going forward, and great crosser of the ball. He always worked back for the team, a real team player |
|
| Name: |
Craig Parsons |
| Position: |
Centreback |
| Reason: |
Craig had a fantastic footballing attitude, always gave the club 100%. A great battler on the pitch, with great recovery skills. Parsons was a natural if somewhat quiet leader, but a leader by example. |
|
| Name: |
Mark Hardacre |
| Position: |
Centreback |
| Reason: |
Mark was the TA “Mr Organisation”, the calming influence of the back four. Mark would always put his body on the line for the club. A great club servant. |
|
| Name: |
Dafydd Jones |
| Position: |
Centreback |
| Reason: |
Dafydd was the most \\\"complete\\\" TA footballer, this lad had everything, pace in abundance, great in the tackle, and a wonderful reader of the game, made defending easy. |
|
| Name: |
Shane Wilde |
| Position: |
Right Back |
| Reason: |
Shane was the TA ball winner, he did all the donkey work, was a box-to-box midfielder, who put his foot in where it hurt. Shane made football look easy, he won the ball and passed to a TA player. He could also be relied upon to get his fair share of goals too. |
|
| Name: |
Lee Duggan |
| Position: |
Left Midfield |
| Reason: |
Lee could have achieved anything on a football pitch; he had fantastic vision, bucket loads of energy, a fantastic shot in either foot and great in the air. Again he could play anywhere but in the centre of the park he could really influence a game. Fantastic player. |
|
| Name: |
Paul Bennett |
| Position: |
Centre Midfield |
| Reason: |
The driving force of the TA midfield, and Captain at the time. Paul had great stamina, good vision with both the short and long ball. Another box-to-box midfielder who got more that his share of goal. His enthusiasm and character in the dressing room were also very important to the side. |
|
| Name: |
John Morgan |
| Position: |
Centre Midfield |
| Reason: |
Not the quickest of strikers, but John had a very sweet left foot. His game came alive in the 18 yard box, John was a \\\"football thinker\\\" and he was always the \\\"Johnny on the spot\\\" probably 85% of his strikes came in side the six yard box. |
|
| Name: |
Keri Vaughan |
| Position: |
Striker |
| Reason: |
Naturally gifted striker, who was great at holding the ball up and acting as the link with the midfield and wide men. Keri was also a real workhorse who gave 100%; he packed a terrific strike and was also very useful in the air. Keri and Shorne Jones had an almost telepathic understanding, and they were both unselfish. |
|
| Name: |
Shorne Jones |
| Position: |
Striker |
| Reason: |
The club’s Mr Versatile, every club needs one. Shorne has played in nearly every position, I liked him in a front 3, top goal-scorer for the club on a number of seasons, he stuck up great partnerships with both Keri Vaughan & Chris Duggan. Holds the club record for 8 goals in a game. A great one-club-man. |
|
| Name: |
Darran Watkins |
| Position: |
Substitute |
| Reason: |
Darran was one of the founder members of the club; he always crossed that white line and gave the club everything. He probably lacked self-belief, but was an immense central defender, perhaps lacking pace, he was a great reader of the game, and loved the physical part of the game. A real team player. |
|
| Name: |
Steven Gough |
| Position: |
Substitute |
| Reason: |
Bopa, was a bit of an enigma, when he was on form he was almost unplayable. Could be deployed on the left flank in both the full back and winger role. A scorer of some wonderful individual goals. Should have played more games than he did. |
|
| Name: |
Gareth Owen |
| Position: |
Substitute |
| Reason: |
Gaffa was a more direct winger, who liked to get in front of defenders and use his crossing ability. One of the best crossers of the ball ever to have played for the TA. Also chipped in some important goals with cracking strikes from wide positions, a very underrated player. |
|
| Name: |
Gary Pearson |
| Position: |
Substitute |
| Reason: |
Gary, was an old fashion type winger, he always backed himself to beat the opposing defender, pacy, tricky and with great crossing ability. Gary was troubled with lots of niggling injuries but when fit was a must in the wide position. |
|
| Name: |
Steven Gardener |
| Position: |
Substitute |
| Reason: |
Stevie, was another box-to-box midfielder, who had a great engine, good vision and was like a rock in the tackle. The biggest compliment I can give Stevie was that he could fit into any system and made the game look easy at times. |
